Rwanda: Zambia to help repatriate Rwandan refugees

Rwanda | Zambia to helpMembers of the Zambian parliament have said that their experience in Rwanda will enable them to manage challenges and unemployment especially among youths in Zambia.

The team comprised of nine Zambian MPs visited Rwanda this April 17 to experience and learn from Rwanda’s progress so as to use a similar initiative in Zambian youth programs, especially youth entrepreneurship.

The group was received by Dr. Jean Damascene Ntawukuriryayo, Rwanda’s Senate President and they were briefed on various socio-economic development programs.

Zambia is known to be among countries that host Rwandan refugees who participated in the 1994 Genocide against the Ethnic Tutsi.

Levi Ngoma the head of the Zambian delegation of legislators said that visiting Rwanda has enabled the parliamentarians to have firsthand information and a clear picture of Rwanda’s progress.

He noted that the Zambian lawmakers will support Rwanda in the process of sensitizing the government of Zambia to repatriate Rwandan refugees especially those suspected of involvement in the 1994 Tutsi Genocide so they can be brought to book.

The delegation noted despite its horrific past, Rwanda is a unique country with a lot to learn from it. Rwanda’s developmental programs, vision 2020 targets, among other community based development programs were highly admired by the Zambian delegation.
