Rwanda deploys level two hospital in CAR

Rwanda Defence Forces deployed Level Two Hospital in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

The Hospital medical equipment transported in Containers, Armored ambulances and other soft skin vehicles that will be serving the Peacekeeping Mission left Kigali to Central African Republic on 20 January 2015.

The Commandant of the Level Two Hospital deployed by Rwanda, Maj Doctor King Kayondo explained to the media that Level Two Hospital under the United Nations could be compared to the District Hospital with advanced equipment and medical specialists.

“We will be able to provide surgical operations, orthopedics, internal medicine, radiological services among others to MINUSCA Peacekeepers and International Staff in MINUSCA”, he said before noting that Rwanda Level Two Hospital under MINUSCA disposes modern medical equipment and medical specialist team ready to carry out their Mandate in MINUSCA.

Rwanda Level Two Hospital under MINUSCA has a total of 69 medical personnel.

Maj Dr Kayondo further noted that deploying a Level Two Hospital for the first time in Peace Keeping Operations was another milestone of Rwanda Defence Forces in preserving peace and security in the world.

“This is a signal that Rwanda has got medical personnel, equipment with acceptable capacity at the international level,” he reiterated.

There are very few countries that deploy Level Two Hospitals in peacekeeping missions.

Under the United Nations standards, Level Two Hospital should have the capacity of treating up to 40 ambulatory out patients per day, provide three intensive care beds, stabilize and evacuate a casualty for evacuation to the next level of medical care among others.
