Rwanda to host EAC Military Games and Cultural Event

More than 500 personnel from Eastern African Community Partner States Defence Forces will convene in Kigali from 5th-18th August 2016 to participate in 10th Edition of the EAC Military Games and Cultural Event. The preparations for this Event are on high gear.

While officiating the Initial Planning Conference (IPC) held in Kigali from 25 to 29 January 2016, Brig Gen MA Kemwaga urged the Participants to the IPC to use their knowledge and experience for the successful conduct of the EAC Military Games and Cultural Event, 10th Edition.

“I urge all of you to fully participate as we deliberate on our main agenda. I hope you will share your expert knowledge and experience to make this year event a success and memorable than ever”, noted Kemwaga from the United Republic of Tanzania who chaired the Initial Planning Conference.

Rwandan Delegation Chairperson, Brig Gen Joseph Demali Muzungu after welcome remarks on behalf of the RDF Chief of Defence Staff, briefed the IPC participants on the status of preparations for the forthcoming EAC Military Games and Cultural Event.

The IPC Participants visited all suggested facilities for the Event and made their observations to the Host Nation.

The IPC selected Football, Handball, Netball, Basketball and Cross country as the Sporting disciplines for the EAC Military Games and Cultural Event 2016.

The EAC military games and Cultural Events are held on rotational basis in all five EAC Partner States namely Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda in accordance with Article two of the Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation aimed at fostering friendship and cooperation among Partner States.
