President Paul Kagame took part in a one on one discussion with CNN’s emerging markets editor John Defterios at the fourth World Government Summit in Dubai.

The global gathering is dedicated to shaping the future of governments worldwide by shaping the agenda with a focus on how they can harness innovation and technology to solve universal challenges facing humanity.

The President said donor support wasn’t meant to be relied on forever but rather to use it to build institutions and economy.

“Our vision is to make sure we are able to stand on our own feet and develop our country, attract investment and do business. There is no reason why we can’t grow intra African Trade to the levels we see in America or Europe. What is good is not necessarily being small but good management of whatever you have, small or big.”

“A referendum is healthy as long as it is anchored on will of the people of Rwanda, not being dictated by anybody else. I don’t depend on comments but on the reality of the situation, Rwandans have their own country and future to think about. We listen to those comments but at the end of the day you have to decide what you do for yourself and your country. Nations will fail if Governments and people have not been working together to fulfill the aspirations of the people.” The President added.

Kagame also met with 30 students from Harvard Business School and John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard on the sideline of the summit where he discussed about the challenges of global economy.

“We found that managing big challenges can be a source of big solutions that can help address other problems across the world. Nobody will ever deliver a solution from outside. If they say they are, they are not being truthful.”
