U.S Embassy revises visa acquisition process

The U.S. Embassy in Rwanda has announced plans to use a new and improved visa fee payment and appointment system to individuals travelling to the United States.

This new system will allow applicants to pay the visa application fee outside of Kigali and schedule a nonimmigrant visa interview appointment online or by calling local phone numbers

Starting Monday, July 28, 2014 the visa application fee will be 160 U.S. dollars and will not increase with the coming changes, according to the embassy.

Following the revision when one has paid the U.S. visa application fee at I&M Bank (formerly Banque Commerciale du Rwanda, BCR) they must schedule a visa interview appointment now, then the visa interview should be conducted before July 20, 2014.

Similarly, a person who requires a visa interview appointment before July 20, 2014— Pay the U.S. visa application fee at I&M Bank and schedule a visa interview appointment now. Your visa interview should be conducted before July 20, 2014.

When one require a visa interview appointment after July 20, 2014: Do not pay the U.S. visa application fee at I&M Bank. “We will provide additional guidance in July on how to pay the visa application fee using our new system,” announces the embassy.

The U.S. Embassy will begin accepting new visa interview appointments using the new system starting July 28, 2014.

“The implementation of this new system is part of our efforts to continually improve our services for our visa applicants.”
