Immigration office has announced that the exercise of taking biometrics of all foreigners residing in Rwanda will start with Nyarugenge and Gasabo from February 24 to 28, 2014 at the Immigration Head Office in Kacyiru.
The Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration Anaclet Kalibata announced yesterday plans to have all foreigners living in Rwanda to get electronic resident identity cards. So far over 12,000 foreigners have registered for electronic IDs, in the process that started in October 2012.
Ange Sebutege, the Communications Officer at the Directorate of Immigration and Emigration says that the electronic resident ID cards for foreigners will replace the paper copiers of Green cards that have been in use.
The whole process will take a maximum of three days and foreigners living in Rwanda have been encouraged to participate in the data collection process, and bring along their passports, laissez passer and any other identification document.
On the same note, at the 4th regional integration summit in Kampala, the East African Community member states on February 20 launched the Single Tourist Visa and the use of National identification for traveling through region.
Immigrations officials say that with the introduction of East Africa tourist visa, the process of acquiring visa has been simplified, less time consuming and the use of National Identity cards as travel documents, citizens of Kenya Rwanda Uganda will make it easy and cheap to provide better services.
