Rwanda: Monde Selection awards Skol

Monde Selection awards

Brasserie des Mille Collines (BMC), the brewer of Skol malt beer in Rwanda, has been awarded the 2012 Gold Medal for quality selection of its beer brand by the ‘Monde Selection’ International Institute that is specialized in test and taste consumer products and grant them a bronze, silver, gold or grand gold quality award.

The managing director of Skol Brewery, Thomas Weingarten who received the Gold award said this award is a promise to our consumers in terms of what beer to expect, but it’s also something to be proud of as a country for producing a beer locally that is superior to many others in the same category- worldwide

This is the second International Gold Award the local brewer has won for its high quality product- Skol beer, brewed from 100 per cent malt.

BMC is the country’s second largest brewery by market share after Bralirwa. It produces over 100,000 hectolitres of beer per year compared to Bralirwa’s 1.3 million hectolitres. The third competitor, East African Breweries Ltd (EABL), imports its products.

“We know consumers of Skol malt beer have very high quality expectations so we have to be very meticulous when sourcing the best ingredients and using the best equipment for the job. We are also proud to have a very competent technical team and they are the ones that won it for us,” said Weingarten.
