Thousands of Catholic followers on Wednesday gathered at Kibeho to celebrate the Assumption of Mary the mother of Christ that comes on 15th of August each year.
The day was celebrated through an open air mass and attracted pilgrims from across the world.
Most of the pilgrims to Kibeho came from Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda.
According to organizers, the number of pilgrims who came from outside is increasing, who most of them decided to visit the site because it is a parishioners place recognized by the Vatican.
“There is a lot we can learn from Mary, the mother of Jesus. We should take up her character as she was holy, faithful and helped others. If we refuse to be kind to others, then we are refusing to help God,” he said.
Father Muvandimwe called upon the Catholics to be messengers and spread the good news of Mary and Jesus.
“Holy Mary is the mediator between human beings and Jesus Christ,”
Massages delivered in different churches in Kigali dwells on the holy mother Mary’s humbleness.
At this feast of Assumption marked a public holiday, most Christian attended church service whose most of them went to Kibeho in Nyaruguru district where the Virgin Mary appeared there on several occasions in 1981 and 1983.
In Kigali many Christian attended the church service where a lot of meditation was done. The attendance also included huge number of children worshipped her and confessed that she prays for them.
It is believed that the Virgin Mary appeared to some teenagers in the remote areas of Kibeho in 1981.
According to the Catholic church the Virgin Mary is immaculate that is to stay pure from all sin results from the original sin that backs each person from the beginning ones existence, but which is later removed by the sacrament of baptism.
In 1982, those who saw the visions reported gruesome sights, including rivers of blood and sliced heads, which are regarded as a foreshowing of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The Roman Catholic Church officially recognised the apparitions in 2001.
