Netherlands Defence strengthens ties with RDF

Maj Gen Leo Beulen, the Director of operation in Netherlands Ministry of Defence on 6th February met respectively with the Minister of Defence, Gen James Kabarebe and the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt Gen Charles Kayonga at the Rwanda’s Defence Headquarters, Kimihurura.

Maj Gen Beulen was accompanied by Commander Hildelgard Hof, Netherland Defence Attache to Rwanda with residence in Nairobi.

Gen Beulen said the discussion with Minister and CDS focused on security situation in the region and training projects with Rwanda Defence Force.

He expressed that he was pleased with the visit with Rwanda that enabled him to understand deeper the situation in the region.

The visit was aimed at strengthening Defence cooperation with Rwanda.

Gen Beulen who visited Rwanda Peace Academy (RPA) in Musanze on February 5 said he was impressed with the rich and very interesting curriculum of the Academy.

RPA provides courses in post conflicts studies, using Rwanda’s model of home grown solutions.

The Netherlands Defence Ministry is planning to send some of their military offers to get trained at the Rwanda Peace Academy.

“Maj Gen Beulen requested that his country be allowed a slot for Dutch Military officers, to attend courses at the Academy and this was approved by RDF leadership,” said Brig. Gen Joseph Nzabamwita, Rwanda Defence Force spokesperson.

He added that Rwanda sends its officers to get trained in Netherland.
