Ukraine inaugurates an Honorary Consulate to Rwanda

Ukraine inaugurated an Honorary Consulate to Rwanda in order to strengthen existing bilateral relationship between the two countries.

The inauguration was made between the ambassador of Ukraine to Rwanda, Volodymyr Butiaha and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mary Baine in Kigali, on February 26, 2013.

Ambassador Volodymyr Butiaha recognized Honorary Consul ‘s ability to   enhance the bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and Ukraine

“After this inauguration, we do hope to have really good development relations and raise trade cooperation from the current amount, which is about 10M $,” said Butiaha.

Regarding the perspective of further strengthening the existing bilateral relations, Ambassador Volodymyr Butiaha mentioned that, from several meetings he held with different government officials, they agreed on exchange of visits to promote trade and investment.

Mr. Vincent Itangayenda was appointed as Honorary Consul with a target to develop trade and investment relations.

“After this inauguration, we do hope to have really good development relations and raise trade cooperation from the current amount, which is about $10million,” said Butiaha.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Mary Baine reiterated on the partnership between Rwanda and Ukraine.

“The Opening of Ukraine Consulate in Rwanda is a good step in strengthening bilateral relations between our two countries,” Baine said.

“We assure you the support of our Government and pledge to work together in strengthening our cooperation,” said Baine.

He also mentioned that they will propose a draft of MoU in education sector after consultation with the ministry of Education.

Baine appreciated the outcome of the meetings and highlighted that education is key for development of Human resource and among Rwandan priorities.

She urged them to put focus also in tourism as it champions in the Region.

Baine also expressed her regret on what Ukraine has been experiencing and stressed that the Government of Rwanda stands together with the Ukrainians.
