Russell Feingold, US Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region of Africa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo visited President Paul Kagame in Kigali on December 4, 2013.
He held discussions with the president focusing on Rwanda’s support for regional and international peace efforts for the DRC.
President Kagame and Russell Feingold shared ideas on the next steps in the implementation of the Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework.
They agreed on the need for initiatives that complement existing efforts aimed to assist the DRC Government to solve the root causes of recurrent crises.
President Kagame and the US Special Envoy Russell Feingold also agreed that a sustainable solution must include the neutralization of the FDLR as a matter of priority.
Russell D. Feingold was appointed as the United States Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region of Africa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (D.R.C.) in July 2013
Alongside other international leaders, he was appointed to find a path to lasting peace and economic prosperity in the Great Lakes region.
