The Rwandan higher learning institutions receive regional award for being among the East African centers of excellence in promoting, tourism, research, ICT, Culture, language and TVET.
The awarded institutions celebrated their awards in Kigali on December 19, 2013.
Other Rwandan institutions that were awarded are the College of Science and Technology –former KIST, the Rwanda National Examination Board (REB), Institute of Science and Technology Research (IRST), Rwanda National Museum Institute (RNMI) and Tumba College of Technology (TCT).
Rwanda’s Minister for East African affairs Jacqueline Muhongayire commended efforts made by the winners and also added that this indicates how these institutions are already meeting regional standards for integration.

Speaking on behalf of the awarded institutions, the Principal of College of Science and Technology Prof. Manasse Mbonye urged other winners to strive for more innovation and creativity as they encourage other people to join the competition.

The above mentioned institutions and the best performing student in EAC Essay Writing Competition 2013 were awarded by the 15th Ordinary Summit of EAC Heads of State.
Maurice Mwiseneza, a student from Cornerstone Leadership Academy-Rwanda was awarded among the best in Essay Writing.
Mwiseneza and other winners were again urged by the Minister of Education to be more exemplary and aim higher to safeguard this pride.
The Summit of EAC Heads of State also awarded the High Level Task Force (HLTF) of Monetary Union with Certificate of Special recognition for contributing to the successful negotiations and conclusion of the protocol.
