The MTN Foundation Rwanda donated computers worth Rwf30 million to Nyamata Technical Secondary School (TSS) located in Bugesera district.
The donation was made by the Vice Chairperson of the Board of Directors – MTN Foundation Rwanda, Zulfat Mukarubega.
Mukarubega urged Nyamata TSS students to take their studies seriously thinking about future self-employment.
She also said that the MTN Foundation set aside about Rwf450 million to support TVET schools through providing computers which will also be used by surrounding local residents in computer literacy programs.
According to the Director of TSS John Sebuhana, the school is lucky to have this donation that will support not only the Computer Electronics department but the entire student population which is now about 749.
Established in 2005 the school trains Construction, Electricity, General Mechanics, Tailoring, Carpentry and Computer Electronics.
Cynthia Murebwayire a senior six student in Computer Electronics said lack of enough computers has always affected chances of acquiring appropriate practical skills.
WDA had previously provided computers to the same school and the Deputy Director General of WDA in charge of training Irenee Nsengiyumva said Nyamata TSS is among several TVET schools that will be connected to internet through fiber optic network.
TSS was chosen for the donation after evaluation on its academic performance and other innovations.
Apart from perfoming better in national exams, students have always exhibited various innovations during TVET Expos.
Other schools chosen for the same donation include IPRC East, IPRC West and South.
